It doesn’t surprise anyone that one of the big reasons our customers invest in our cnc routers is to boost their productivity. While we all admire those who custom carve every piece entirely by hand, those who do so are limited in the number of products they can put out and this also makes exact repeatability a true challenge. One company in particular experienced a textbook example of this dilemma back in 1934.
Eerie Sauder was a woodworker who made his living building custom cabinets and church pews. Trying to make the most of his materials, he started building tables with his leftover wood. The quality of those tables gave an enterprising salesman an idea, and he confidently ordered 25,000 of them. Of course Sauder’s company was not set up for this size of an order, but since we all know that Sauder Woodworking Co. is still with us today, you might have guessed that Eerie fulfilled that order and that salesman sold a lot of tables.
A company that could quickly produce 25,000 top quality tables was bound to do well, and they did, but nearly 20 years later (in 1953) another piece of their success story fell into place when Sauder developed a snap together table that could be easily assembled by the customer in their home. This ingenuity kicked off the RTA (ready to assemble) furniture industry which is going strong today. So much so that most of us have purchased a piece of furniture from Sauder at some point.
Sauder Woodworking Co, now offers more than 40 different furniture collections with pieces tailored to every room in the home. They are also the leading producer of RTA furniture in North America. Sauder’s facilities comprises of over 4 million square feet of space to employ over 2,400 people and house state of the art technology and equipment, including an Industrial CNC Router, to keep up with their serious production demands.
A third generation family business, they’re keeping the Sauder family ingenuity alive as they service their furniture customers as well as their other diverse divisions such as Sauder Funeral Products and Woodtrac ® (a line of wood ceilings and closet systems). While today sales top $500 million annually, they’re still proud of their dedication to making stylish furniture affordable for everyone. At Industrial CNC, we’re very proud of the association, after all, our products go together like Cams and Dowels!
